Making Logo Design easy for Businesses

I’m Aditya, a 26-year-old Identity designer born in India and now is happily living & working in Mumbai, the cultural and business hub of South Asia.

During Logo/Brand Design projects, I hated showing the standard 3–4 logo options for branding projects. I came across as unfocused as I’m creating multiple options and most often I used to confuse the clients as well. “The client usually picks the logo that isn’t suited for them.” — You’ve either heard these words or said them yourself. The problem is our inability to produce high-quality concepts that solve the client’s problems.

I used to be an image-maker, I used to think that making beautiful logos that is modern, digitally scalable and a mark which is appropriate to the industry is enough. Though that is more than enough for most clients. I was still designing and providing 2–3 concepts of logos, brand marks, and typeforms for the logos. When I used to present it to clients, I felt that I was making them choose rather than providing them with a solution. I was hired to do the work and it turned the other way around.

My clients know the quality of work I produce and they are confident in my ability to make them look like a million-dollar company even if they are a startup. But I knew I had to make the process easier for them. So I tried to change the conversation when I was talking to clients the first time. I started spending more times on the call, in trying to uncover more details about the following -

  1. The end-user of the clients
  2. Understanding exactly who the users are
  3. How they are consuming/discovering the brand
  4. What is the objective of the Branding Process
  5. Why do they want to get a new logo designed

By asking a LOT of questions, I slowly started to understand what they were trying to do and instead of making something look nice. I was actually designing knowing why EXACTLY the company wanted a new brand and the problems they were facing with their old one. Since I adopted this philosophy a while ago, I’ve been only providing 1–2 Logo concepts and I am confident that any of the logos they choose will be right for them.

Ask questions and be their champion, after all, whatever you design, will probably be used by them for the next 5+ years. Ask Questions and Uncover their why!

Aditya
